Botanist discovered a new plant, while sitting in Facebook

Enthusiast Reginaldo Vasconcelo photographed in 2012 in the jungle on top of a mountain in Brazil and posted in social networks to share with friends, reports the journal of the Smithsonian institution.

Each of Gonelli did repost this photo, and so she caught his eye. the "the Plant in the photo was very different from anything I've seen before," " says the scientist. It was unknown species of sundew (lat. — Drosera), which was named Drosera magnifica. It can reach five feet in height and is the second largest carnivorous plant in the Americas. It feeds on small insects the size of a butterfly, grabbing them with its sticky leaves.

Together with the author photo Gonella returned to the mountain and confirmed that the plant is new to science. After discussion with other researchers scientist published his discovery in a scientific journal. It is said the researcher, this is the first time a new type of plant was opened with the help of social networks, but maybe not the last one.
