According to Bloomberg, Apple is actively engaged in developing wireless charging that works at a great distance from the charged iPhone or iPad. In existing systems, wireless charging stand uses miniature or "mats". They require a power outlet in close proximity and a fully wireless system can be called a stretch. In the Apple, probably, has decided to use advanced technology.
