Enthusiasts of the company Grindhouse Wetware was inspired by bioluminescent organisms and implanted under the skin with silicone implants LED illumination. A device called Northstar V1 looks like a big coin and glows under the skin of five reddish lights. The implantation takes only 15 minutes, tells Motherboard.

As explained by the creators of the device, the implant can be used for highlighting tattoos or imitation of bioluminescence. The lanterns are activated by the magnet, glow for 10 seconds and then faded out. So they will blink approximately 10,000 times, then in the instrument the battery charge is depleted. To charge it will not work, and therefore have to be extracted from the hand all the same surgically. Further, the implantation process can be viewed on the bloody photo from the article Motherboard.

Northstar V1 will go on sale next year. The creators hope that they can realize through the tattoo parlors of the order of 100 such implants.
