According to Engadget, for a small firm that specializes in patent litigation, the court's decision was an unexpected fortune. Because "patent trolls" demanded $532 million, and received even more.

Apple isn't going to pay $625 million and is going to appeal the decision. The company's lawyers were surprised at this conclusion and appeal that four of the disputed patent were invalid. In addition, the company says that over several years developed the technology, claimed by VirnetX.

"the Jury saw what we said so long ago: Apple for several years violated VirnetX patented technology" — said the plaintiff's lawyer.
