In the near future Roscosmos plans to begin the development of the rocket engine on natural gas. The establishment of a methane engine, provided development work "do NE" ("Propulsion launch vehicles").

At OCD "do HOLY" Roscosmos asked to allocate a total of 25,223 billion rubles (about $330 million), but not all tools are designed to create methane engine. In "do HOLY" included work on the creation of prototypes of liquid rocket engines of new generation, equipped with system diagnostics and emergency protection, and basic elements of engines based composite materials, namely, nozzles, nozzle tips radiative cooling and bottom screens.
