Researchers at mit have created a network of servers that uses cheap and slow RAM. But it almost had no effect on overall network performance. Thus they demonstrated that the production of supercomputers and high-loaded networks can be made more budget.
In the test compared the performance of 20 servers with 20 TB and 40 servers with 10 TB RAM flash memory. The gap in the speed of the calculations was minimal, notes Engadget. At least in ranking web pages. At certain moments the RAM is used to reduce the load on the processors, processing some data.
Scientists are agreed that the use of cheaper RAM unable to have a positive impact on all tasks. However, in some cases, the savings will allow us to devote more resources to solve other scientific problems.
