Gene mutations that have a direct relationship with male life expectancy, in the community of geneticists call the "mother's curse". At the conclusion of researchers from the University of Otago, certain defective genes responsible for the problems of human health, are transmitted from the mother of only boys. Women from birth has a genetic immunity to various kinds of mutations that can protect the body against the development of many deadly diseases. These scientists explain the fact that men die earlier than women.

However, the researchers note that "mother's curse" shortens the life of men only for a relatively short period of time — from two to five years. Often the difference in life expectancy between men and women more than five years, and in these cases it is time to speak about addiction, the higher the load and the wont of men not to go to the doctors with health problems.

According to the European statistical Committee, in the European Union women live an average of 5.5 years longer than men.
