Russian programmer agreed to the transplant head

Russian programmer Valery Spiridonov was the first person who has decided on a unique transplant the head, reports the Daily Mail.



At the end of February 2015 Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero stated his desire to perform a unique operation on transplantation of a human head. The medic had hoped to do it in 2017, however, not reported patient name, who decided to leave his body.

However, recently it became known that the 30-year-old Russian Valery Spiridonov volunteered to go under the knife of a neurosurgeon. For this operation the programmer pushed spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), which he suffers from early childhood. SMA is a genetic disease, which in humans from an early age stops muscle growth. the



Valery told that it had contacted the Italian neurosurgeon two years ago, after learning about his research on the Internet. All this time they discussed the risks and prospects of transplantation via email and Skype. The Russian said that his family fully supports this decision, despite the fact that the operation is associated with greater risk.

Donor body, according to the programmer, can become the patients who had incurable brain injuries or criminals sentenced to death.

At the moment the date of the surgery are still unknown, as Canavero not found sources of funding and was not able to recruit staff of 150 physicians needed for transplantation. the



Note that the neurosurgeon has encountered a critical reaction from scientists and doctors. To Sergio, a similar operation was performed on the monkey head in the 1970-ies, while the experimental primacy of lived with a new head only nine days since his immune system rejected the alien bodies.
