Roscosmos and Rosatom plan to prepare to flight test the spacecraft with a nuclear engine up to 2025. The relevant work stipulated in the draft Federal space program for 2016-2025 (PCF-25), write "Izvestia". The nuclear energy system considered to be the major sources of energy in space when planning large-scale interplanetary missions.

Earlier it was reported that by 2017 research and design Institute for power technologies (NIKIET, the structure of Rosatom) plans to build a nuclear reactor for the future of the engine.

Power-ISS — 110 kilowatt — work is provided by solar panels with an area of 17 70 M. For the realization of interplanetary manned missions will need a much more serious power.

"All the works on creation of nuclear engines is proceeding according to schedule. We can with great certainty say that the work will be completed within the time provided by the target program," said the project Manager of the communications Department of Rosatom Andrey Ivanov.
