Nepalese ophthalmologist was probably a record for the number of patients who passed through his surgical table. Sanduk Ruit operates in Nepal for many years, regularly conducting operations to remove cataracts. According to The New York Times, since that time he has helped more than 120 thousand people back to their vision.

Surgery for one eye will cost Sanduka of Ruita at $25, it lasts about five minutes: that's how much the ophthalmologist is required to remove the cataract and install an artificial lens. The so-called "Nepalese method" is now so successful that he began to study in American medical schools.

In the U.S., by the way, to perform such operations involve a large amount of sophisticated equipment, however, in poor countries, this luxury is not allowed, the newspaper writes. For this reason, Ruit developed a technique for carrying out microsurgery with minimal effort.

Skeptics were against the method chosen by the Nepalese surgeon, however, subsequent observations have shown that the effectiveness of "Nepalese method" is 98% — the same as for operations in expensive clinics with expensive equipment.
