Specializing in the production of prostheses Icelandic company Ossur has announced the successful development of bionic limbs that can be controlled by thought. Bionic foot Proprio Foot were demonstrated at the press conference held in Copenhagen. In the base of the fixture is the technology Implanted MyoElectric Sensor (IMES), which through the use of special sensors allows motorized ceiling prosthesis to function almost like a real foot.

Sensors are implanted in the muscle tissue of the patient, and the operation "installation of the prosthesis lasts for 15 minutes. In order to insert the necessary implants, doctors have to make only one small incision with a length of 1 centimeter. The transmitters are supplied through tiny magnetic coils located in the prosthesis, and not in man. The manufacturer characterizes the coil as a "durable", so patients don't have to constantly change.

a Distinctive feature of bionic limbs Ossur is the fact that the sensors do not need to attach to specific nerves. They are built into the end of the remaining leg and take the electrical signals from the brain of the user. Then a couple of sensors wirelessly transmits the signal to the Proprio Foot and forces her to perform certain actions.

Representatives Ossur consider the development of a breakthrough, in the near future will help to create even more sophisticated models of prostheses. And while the company focuses on large-scale clinical trials, after which the Proprio Foot will go on commercial sale. It could happen in 3-5 years.
