In November was the start of the project to grow grass and flowers on the International space station. This applies to the VEGGIE system: in special "pillows" planted the seeds of the plants that bloomed last week. Scientists had intended to observe how they will grow and reproduce in zero gravity, but then something went wrong.

Decorative asters, zinnias suddenly withered and began to die, reports "RIA Novosti". the "With our plants, something happens. Such a situation would be a big problem when flying to Mars. I have become a true mark Watney in order to cope with this problem," said on Twitter astronaut Scott Kelly.

the Fate of asters remains unknown, Kelly and his colleagues are working on their "salvation."

In the future, if scientists are satisfied with the results, VEGGIE can be used for growing vegetables, fruits and other plants for "orbital garden". Theoretically, this will help future explorers of other planets.
